Tiberius

Emperor A.D. 14 - 37

Tiberius was the son of Livia and Tiberius Claudius. Livia was then married to Augustus and he did not likeTiberius. In 11 B.C., Tiberius was married to Augustus' daughter Julia. Tiberius came to power in 14 A.D. against Augustus' wishes. Augustus wanted one of his grandsons to be the successor; however, they both died.

Tiberius was a very suspicious man with a sinister reputation and one of the best military leaders known. In 26 A.D. he went to Capri leaving the captain of the Praetorian Guard, Sejanus, to govern. During this five year period, Sejanus plotted against Tiberius so he could take over the monarchy. Tiberius would not stand for this and returned in 31 A.D. to put Sejanus on trial infront of the Senate for treason. He was found guilty and along with his family and friends, was executed.

After this happened, Tiberius trusted no one! He killed many innocent people during the rest of his reign. In 37 A.D., Tiberius' successor, Caligula, came to power.
